Failed to Mention

Comments: Soz....4got to mention that these "all time" greats (Ray & Margaret)...Not only took/trained us.. (Dunn & Pinchem) to an Australian title, but did it in 3 styles which we achieved b4 we were 17yrs. (inncluding Sth Pacific and across ALL federations of dance)...Sadly we all seperated as time went on. I'm refering to back in the early 70's now....and i actually have been following their childrens achievements...(way cool by the way).

"Glen Tierney" rings a bell...Was that from the old "Wards Studio" days? Allan Taschack certainly became well known. (if it's the same Glen) hehe.(say no more ;P)

Hmmm....What else can i mention that might jog some memories?

Kerry Wilson?...(ex World Champ)Sold me my first set of English made suit of tails ASWELL as (back in the ABBA days)....Brought back a 45 music single from the euro song festival and did a demo at Orange with music we haven't heard yet...a song called "Waterloo" to a JIVE......was AWESOME and those that were there will NEVER 4get it.

Damn....I'm leading all you ppl on......WE were the guinea pigs for the FIRST "Cat Suits" to be worn in Australia...lol

Styrups took a bit of gettin use to...AND the wolfwhistles...lol.

It's SOOO excellent to see "dancesport" take off......A lot of years and generations went into what it is today.....CONGRATS EVERYONE!!!....Is way cool to watch. ;)

Jayne and I would sincerely like to thank everyone for their offers of support and best wishes.  The fast acting assistance that was given to Jayne by her fellow competitors, spectators and professionals is a credit to the Dancesport fraternity and demonstrates the immense respect that you have for each other.

Jayne has very fortunately not broken or fractured any bones in her knee, she has however sustained some ligament and soft tissue damage, the full extent will be known once the swelling has gone down in a couple of day's time.

Sincere thanks

* our (ex WA) exhibition dancers Daryl Davenport & Natalie Smith for their beuatiful floorshows on both Sat & Sun evenings

* our presenters at the 'Boot Camp' held on Friday - Peter Townsend & Ruud Vermeij

* our adjudicators who spent long hours standing and concentrating; Peter Townsend, Rosalyn Smith & Debbie Sullivan

* our 2 adult couples: Arsen & Yuliya who won the Adult Open Latin in such convincing fashion and Nathan Kirkby & Rhianna Staker who were placed 3rd in both the Rising Star events - standard & new vogue

* our talented Junior Open couple: Scott Elstermann & Lydia Tyler; 1st in Std, 2nd in NV, 2nd in Latin

* our Masters 1 couple Fred Gerloff & Joan Zhong. They danced their little legs off; 6th in L3 Std, 6th in L4 Std, 6th in Open NV, 4th in L4 NV, 4th in L2 Latin, 2nd in L3 Latin (a great cha-cha!)

* our two Masters 2 couples;

... Donald & Rosemarie Ash - they placed 1st in L4 Latin and danced in the semi-final of the Open Latin and in the semi of the L3 NV;

... and us! Barry & Colleen. We placed 2nd in M2 Open Latin and made the semi-finals of the M2 Open Std and M2 8-Dance events.

It was great that the WA contingent sat together and were very vocal in their support of each other; thanks to the parents and friends in attendance too.

The event was superb as usual; great venue, music, lighting, stage arrangement and the best floor marshall in Aust - Colin B.

So if you didn't make it this year - put in on your calendar for 2010 - the Qld Open at Jupiter's Casino at Easter. Hope to see you there.

Clearing up

Comments:

Hi all,

I just want to clear up a rumour that has been going around.  I heard the rumour yesterday and it had upset me greatly.  Nathan and myself are taking our dancing very seriously with travelling overseas this year and moving to England next year to further our dancing.  Therefore, I am NOT pregnant and we don't plan on having children until we retire from dancing (our mid 30's).  In future, before rumours are spread that affect other people, please confirm with the person or people involved first as they can greatly hurt other people and it could be detrimental to their dancing and their enjoyment of competition.

Thank you.

Hi Anna

More Congratulations !!!

As many of you will have seen, Ash-leigh Hunter has made the top 20 in SYTYCD.  She has been a competitive dancer in Perth for many years(since Juvenile) and enjoyed outstanding success with her partners, Robbie Brown and later Shane Reilly, before joining Burn The Floor six years ago.  She hails from Lesmurdie, and was a student at St Brigids College.  Lets keep her in the competition by voting for her each week, she is representing WA and Dancesport in this country, so please get behind her by voting for her each week.

Congratulations also must go to a very special friend, Brendan Humphreys who will be a guest choreographer on the show in the next couple of weeks.

Our best wishes to Brendan and to Ash-leigh for every success.

Funny how people eat their own words sometimes.

The reason I'm taking it back, for those that don't know (which should theoretically be most of you, depending when you read this), is that me and Joanne have now split up.

After organising to dance with Jack, she called me to let me know that we were no longer dancing together.

Rumours

Comments:

Hi all. I'm not one to come online and talk much but here I am, with something quite important to say.

While in Melbourne at the Aussies, and again back in Perth, it was brought to my attention that apparently I have asked numerous people to dance with me.

I would like to tell the public that these rumours are not true, and I'd like to remind whoever is making them up that this is Slander, which is a civil offence by law in Australia, and against the rules of Dancesport Australia. DSA has the authority to ban members for it, so I advise that whoever is saying these things owns up for it to me with an apology, and stops saying them.

In particular, someone whose identity I have yet to find out has told someone extremely close to me that I told them that I was going to dance with Courtney Branch.

Again, this is not true, and it would be in the best interests of whoever said this to let me know, before I find out myself.

By nature, I am not the type of person to make threats, but these rumours are damaging my reputation and my relationship with my partner, and they have gone far enough. I will be happy to drop everything if the rumours stop, and the person making them apologises, but if not, and I find out who is responsible, I can assure you that a letter of complaint will be going to Dancesport, and personally I will do what I must.

To everyone else, sorry to speak with such a harsh tone, but as I said, things have gone far enough.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you, and congratulations to everyone who went to Melbourne, WA did extremely well, if I do say so myself :p.

Just to confirm once more for all those people who have heard otherwise, Joanne and I WILL be dancing together in the new year, and, as far as I'm concerned, every year after that until we retire! Sorry to dash the hopes of all the gossippers out there! :D

I look forward to seeing everyone in the new year, and to a whole new year of dancesport! I hope everyone has a good productive year, and achieves everything they are striving for.

Again, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Comments:

I would like to congratulate Peter Townsend on a most fabulous lecture. If you were not at the DSWA AGM yesterday, you missed at treat. Peter talked about "The role of a Coach". It was one of the most thought provoking lectures I have ever attended.

Peter has the ability to talk very logically about exploring the way a coach involves a student in the learning process. As an experienced full-time coach myself I find his ideas on how to improve a great motivation to me, as I'm sure they are to everyone who attended. Peter now intends to make Perth his home and to know he will also be a DSWA Board Member and in particular the future CEO of DSA is great news, congratulations.

Dancesport coach makes headway in skate dance

Comments:

"Dancesport coach moves into artistic coaching for skate dancers."

Artistic Skaters Rachel Tonkin (Youth section) and Shenae Kealley (Junior Section) were successful in winning the 2008 National Artistic Rollerskating Championships, both skaters train at the Morley Roller Rink in Perth and have been training consistently with dancesport coach Richard Morrissey throughout the year.

Rachel and Shenae will take their place in the Australian Team to represent Australia at the World Artistic Roller Skating Championships in Taiwan in November.

Richard is a non skater, though through the priciples of dance and the forces acting upon balance and movement is much the same as that in dancesport at this level except they move faster and have wheels.

Richard has been invited to lecture on Choreography and Artistic Presentation at Skate Camp in January 2009.

Dear Anna thank you sincerely for your assistance with advertising for the Cabaret of Hope.  I am pleased to advise that we managed to raise just over $4000.00 which has been handed to Michelle and her family.   The Cabaret was a huge success and I would like to pay tribute to all of those who donated their time, talents, money and raffle prizes.  It was an emotional evening to say the least with lots of laughs, a few tears and an atmosphere that was very special indeed.   Michelle was well enough to attend and had a memorable evening catching up with family and friends.  I know that she, and her family, are very appreciative of everyone's love and support and it is on their behalf that I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who assisted to make this event a success.    Special thanks must go to  Erin and Jason Thomas, Cheryl Lowe and Len Humphreys for their hard work in making the evening such a memorable occasion. Apart from those who attended, there were lots who sent donations as well which was such a kind gesture. Thank you so much Everyone!

WA & ex WA couples at Crown Championship

Comments:

WA and ex-WA dancers did well at the Crown Championships held at the Crown Casino on Sunday 13th April:

Jason Thomas teamed up with Zallie Merritt to win the Professional & Registered Amateur Standard and New Vogue events. Great dancing - well done Jason.

Daryl Davenport & Natalie Smith (now dancing for NSW) came second in both the Standard and New Vogue Professional events. Natalie looked stunning.

Zoe Unkovich and Adam Blakey (now dancing for Victoria) won the Professional Latin.

Barry Laidler & Colleen Ranger came 6th in Masters 2 New Vogue.

Congratulations to all WA (and ex-WA)couples. A really busy and great event again this year.

Two other WA couples attended this year's Qld Open and had great success.

Congrats to Artur Komarnicki and Kathryn L'Estrange who finished second in the Adult Open Standard and to Vincent Ioppolo and Kayleen Rimmer who finished third in the Masters I Open Latin.

These events were hotly contested and both of our WA couples danced so well. Terrific to watch.

Well done WA!

Craig and I want to wish Rach and Steve the best of luck in Sydney. We will miss their company and competition here in Perth! We enjoy spending time with and competing against this quality couple! They continually challenge us to raise our level of dancing, so it will be a shame to lose the level of competition that they bring to WA! It will be a great loss to the WA dancing community, competitors and spectators, but a fantastic score for NSW and an excellent decision to further their dancing! See you both in Sydney soon!

Just further to the comments made about the marshalling on the day.  I wasn't competing on the day but there were a few juvenile/sub juveniles from our studio who did.  At the beginning of the day their parents were not allowed to take their children into the area, the kids were just to be left to fend for themselves, now I can see the reasoning for not allowing parents to be allowed to stay there but honestly a 6 year old cannot always identify the event they are in or what is going on, especially if they are being yelled and screamed at in all of the chaos of the marshalling area.  Now this isn't criticism of Jack but however a criticism of the fact that there weren't enough marshalls.  Now I believe this was changed with a few people stepping in to help but surely he couldn't have been expected to work alone.  The other thing that may have been due to this single person marshalling or perhaps another similar problem was a couple who was dancing level 1 and 2. They checked the list of couples who had made it into the final for the level 1 event and they weren't on it so they stayed in their costume for level 2.  Then just as the final is announced with couples to take the floor they were told that they were in it.  They were both panicing about this now and probably meant that they didn't dance their best in the final, now surely had there been more marshalls or a better marshalling system this kind of thing may have been avoided.  I'm not sure about this 100 ut did the way things were done change this year, because I remember last year flowing quite well?

Now I have had my rant I think that some congratulations need to be given to the organisers of the event for the massive amount of work they put in to make it a (mostly) successful event showcasing some amazing dancing :)

I think you have mis-interpected "Dancers" comments. What Dancer meant was that in all probability... Steven & Rachelle would be in the final. This couple are very accomplished dancers and have been dancing many years starting in Juvenile. It is very unlikely that they would dance out of time. Therefore they would most likely be the final. You are entitled to your opinion but you must make  comments only when you know all the facts. Maybe you were a semi-finalist yourself, I don't know... but it really isn't good to have this kind of attitude towards another couple who have done you no wrong. If you got to know Steven and Rachelle you would see what I mean.

If you are dancer I would like to see you rise above these comments, as they do you no good. Dancing is about having fun, feeling good about yourself and most important striving to be your best, in good times and in bad. Be more kind about your approach and not so antagonistic and you will see, what goes around comes around, and good things will come to you. I wish you well...Take care... Anna!

Comments:

Just adding something on to Dancer's comment;  Don't forget the cut down of music for an hour between 10-11 in the morning.  How is it fair for Judges to properly judge when they don't have enough time to look at everyone?  The competitors are not there to keep to a time frame, they are there to compete and to be judged fairly within the standard 1min 40sec dances.  30 sec quicksteps just barely get couples over halfway around the floor.

Also I would like to add my thanks too Anna.  You are doing a fantastic job! Xxx

Comments:    Hiya Anna :)

I would like to put forward a few points about the W.A. Open and the organisation of the event.

If any Dancesport officials would be able to read this, i wanted to highlight a few disappointments that happened on this day..

Firstly, the marshalling area. I noticed out the back in the marshalling area, Jack (by himself) was trying to organise dancers into their "event categories". Now this is a very high stress job in itself and Jack is a competent person for this particular job but as things were getting more hectic by the minute, I saw Juvenile and Sub-Juvenile couples being yelled at, getting upset etc. You get the picture. This situation could have easily been avoided if there was at least one other person helping him out. I know there was a gentleman who went out there later on but the "damage" was already done. It was running smoother once there were a few more helping hands around.

Another event that was quite disappointing was at the night-time show. The Adult Open Latin. Now i may not be 100 accurate on this so disregard what i am saying if you think its unnecessary, but to my understanding, the interval of the night time show, should have been 20 minutes, but four general dances, to me, does not seem like 20 minutes - unless each dance went for about 5 minutes each...

The events ran like so..

Brumby's Adult Open Final

Presentations:

Juv. Open New Vogue

Adult Open Standard followed by the honours dance of the winners.

Intermission

Now, the Adult Open Latin Semi-finals were held straight after the intermission. Intermission was cut short. As a result of this, two highly regarded and talented W.A. dancesport couples missed their event. Both couples danced in the Adult Open Standard and had to wait for the presentations. These couples were Steven Grinbergs and Rachelle Plaas and Simon Mills and Grace Morrissey with Steven and Rach winning the Adult Open standard, dancing the honours, then having ten minutes to rush backstage and get dressed and changed for the latin. Likewise with simon and grace. Unfortunately these couples missed the first two dances of the latin as persons in the marshalling area did not make the call that there were two couples missing - regardless that the interval was cut short. To my knowledge these were the only two couples that danced both styles that night and it was a very bad judgement to make the event go forward without ALL couples. Now yes, i know that in "normal" situations it would be "tough luck, you missed your event" but there was no way at all they could have possibly of made it in time. then to have them disqualified after all of this mess.. i cant imagine what they would have felt like.

I commend the endeavours of the event organisers and those who put so much time into events as such as these, and in theory these events should have run smoothly, but simple changes such as switching the Masters (which was the following event) with the Latin would have given more time if needed (which in this case would have been handy).

It was very unfortunate what happened as one couple had a guaranteed place in the finals.

Now i dont want this to drag on, whats done and happened is in the past but for the future, i would strongly advise and hope that someone would come up with some sort of protocol or "back-up plan" it this sort of thing happens again. I also think communication may have had something to do with these errors made. If someone had told a dancesport official what had actually happened, i'm sure the first two dances would have been re-danced and the couples would of had a fair chance. We all learn from our mistakes.

Thank you for taking the time to have a look at this letter and at the suggestions for the future. I'm sorry this letter is slightly negative but it needed to be said as it was very disappointing to couples and parents of the juvenile dancers mentioned earlier.

You are doing a fantastic effort with photos and this site Anna. It is always nice to see your smiling face at competitions. We all lov you :)

I would like to let anyone who did not attend the OzDance Camp know that it is a fantastic weekend full of inspiration and that they should be planning to attend next year. WA was well represented with most of our top Standard couples and some local coaching professionals taking advantage of world class presenters.

Natalie and I found that we were able to gain something for our own dancing from each lecture, including the predominately Latin lectures. Thanks to Marie for organising the WA contingency. It was well worth the trip and I can't wait to put the information to use.

Partner Split

Hi Anna, After 8 years of dancing together, starting as little Sub juvenile competitors, Gerry and Sarah have decided to end their partnership. Gerry will turn 16 years in June and will therefore have to compete in the Youth category. He is still undecided whether he will dance this year or concentrate on his schooling and other interests.

Sarah will be 13 years old and has another two and a half years left in Junior division. Ideally she would like to find a partner who is able to help her achieve this. For this reason they have very amicably ended their dance partnership, with both parents and kids continuing to remain good friends and keep in contact with each other.

Williamson's Moving

On Thursday, Earle and Kallyanne met, at Kally's request to discuss the next year for their partnership.  After seven years together they both felt that they would like to move on to other things.

As a consequence to that, Earle decided to move overseas.  Due to visa restrictions for a long term stay, I would have to accompany him.  Obviously, we couldn't leave Ami and Errol here on their own, so they will have to move also.

We will leave with great sadness, all of the friends and coaches that have played such a large part in the children's lives over the past ten years.  I will always appreciate the wonderful influences they have received in their formative years.  We love Australia and hope to be back each year to the Australians to renew old friendships.

If anyone needs a place to stay or a helping hand while they are overseas, please do not hesitate to contact us.  Anna will have our e-mail address.

STOP PRESS ... AUSTRALIAN STARS SPLIT

Comments:

Straight from a meeting tonight Thursday 28/12/06; It is sad to report two of Australia's leading dancesport couples have terminated their partnerships.

Earle Williamson & Kallyanne Brown and Errol Williamson & Christina Morrissey have terminated their very successful partnerships.

Earle and Kallyanne have been past Juvenile and Junior champions and are the current 2006 Australian Open Youth Standard Champions, World Youth representatives for Australia in 2006 and won the right to represent Australia in the World Standard and 10 Dance for 2007.

Errol & Christina are the current 2006 Open Juvenile Australian Champions in all styles and undefeated in Standard and Latin throughout 2006.

These two couples have been great ambassador's for WA dancing and all their mentors and coaches who have provided a pathway for their success over the years.

To reduce speculation and the reason why these two talented couples terminated their partnerships is very simple: The Williamson family have decided to move overseas to Europe to further the dancing careers of Earle and Errol on the European circuit, this decision is a very bold move and leaves two of Australia's most talented young lady dancers looking for dedicated partners to continue their successful careers in dance.

Kallyanne is very keen to continue competing in the Youth division in Standard, Latin + 10 Dance. Christina aged 12yrs in February (2007) is keeping her options open as to Juvenile or Junior for the 2007 season and wishes to dance in all styles.

I am sure the followers and supporters of these two very talented couples wish them all the best in their personal goals and dreams for the future.

We just wanted to say goodluck to all the WA Dancers heading to Melbourne next week. We hope that whether you win or not you all dance your best and walk away with your heads held high.  We're sure you will all do WA proud.

Although we are no longer in Perth we still think of our dancing friends regularly.

Goodluck - we will be thinking of you.

Thanks Larisa for your kind comments. What a buzz dancing in a Blackpool final. You say that we set a fine example, when in fact it is people like yourself that set the example - you have always been really supportive to the industry and particularly to younger dancers such as Julia and myself. The support that people like yourself give us is what helps us believe in ourselves.

Thanks heaps

As always they were fabulous ambassadors for Dancesport and I thank them all sincerely for donating their time and their talents to assist in this way. A special thankyou to their families for giving up part of their weekend also.

The feedback received about the Ballroom Dancing display from many of the members of public who visited Government House on Open Day has been outstanding. Thank you everyone.

Dear Anna

Just wanted to let you know that Adam and Karen Reeve have announced their retirement from competitive Dancing and I wanted to congratulate them on a most outstanding career.  Many of you will probably not know that Adam is Australia's only Professional World Champion ever, and Karen is Icelands only World Champion in any sport, having recently won Sports Star of the year in her home country, Iceland.  Adam and Karen will continue to entertain throughout the world with their floorshows, they will also teach and adjudicate throughout the world, in fact they are also very keen to come to Perth some time this year.

I'm sure I speak for all their friends here in WA when I wish them all the very best for the next stage of their wonderful careers.

We were very close in during 1992 to 1995 and since my leaving Perth (now living in Sydney) and traveling for a long time I lost contact with her. I decided today to get onto Google and see if she is still dancing, and get in contact with her so I could invite her to my wedding next year. I cant believe that the only information I can find on her has revealed that she has passed away. Can anyone please tell what happened and how I can get in contact with her family and send my regards? Also, I've been trying to find pictures of her when she own the Junior Latin World Championships, I believe it was 1993, and I cant find any - can anyone help me find some photos of her, I just cant believe that she is gone! Any information would be most appreciated, Sarah Lindsay

Comments: Hi there Anna. I have just returned from the OzDancecamp in Wollongong and again have had the most amazing experience.  Over 70 couples from all parts of the world attended the camp, it was wonderful to see familiar faces and to meet lots of new people.
Once again The Ball was a tremendous evening, wonderful food and wine with a floorshow that was simply spectacular.  One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Don Blackam Scholarships to ten lucky youth couples. It was a magnificent gesture on Don's part and for the organiser's of OzDance Camp it is heartwarming to know that this man shares and supports all that Donna, Alan, Adam and Karen are striving to achieve for dancers in this country .
It must be remembered that this project is wholly to support the dance industry in Australia, to try and provide the same access to the best coaches and learning environment here that overseas dancer's have in abundance.
The commitment that Alan and Donna, along with Adam and Karen have to the dancers and the industry in Australia is inspirational, and I am so proud to be associated with this project.
This year we were so fortunate to have Michael and Vicki Barr as guest teachers, their knowledge of dance is amazing and I was in awe of the way that couples responded to their lectures and lessons.  It is easy to see why they teach most of the top professional competitors in the world.
Once again Richard Porter joined us and he truly is the most entertaining professional one could meet.  His depth of knowledge is amazing and as Helen says he certainly has his own inimitable style.
I am always surprised that more of our teaching professionals don't take advantage of the opportunity for professional development that the camp has to offer, so I am not surprised by Emily and Helen's observations.  It is such a shame to waste this week of opportunity.
I am so happy to be able to advise you that the planning for OzDance Camp 2006 is well underway, and I urge any of your readers who want to participate to please contact me early at shingler2@hotmail.com
as lessons will fill early.
Thank you for your assistance with advertising the OzDance Camp for last year.  For anyone wishing to view photos of the event, these can be seen on the Ballroom Rythms website.

Comments: Hi Anna, I also attended the Ozdance Camp in Woolongong last week and would like to convey to all dancers, parents and professionals alike how fantastic the week was.  As a parent, I watched Christie and Mitchell's lessons with Donna, Alan, Adam and Karen and could witness first hand the magic that was woven.  How privileged they were to be be trained by such consummate professionals, to share their vibrance and love of dance and to benefit from their extensive experience.  As a dancer, I was intent on again participating in the camp as last year was nothing short of awe-inspiring.  We are so incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to attend lectures and workshops given by these people and to be trained by them on our own doorstep.  Richard Porter was back with his own inimitable style and wicked humour and entertained us while educating us.  Michael and Vicki Barr were spellbinding and brought their wealth of knowledge with them.  Many Australians travel to Europe for lessons with these coaches, who are among the world's best, and we were able to do so right here in our own country.  Others spend hundreds of dollars on training videos that cannot possibly convey what we experienced.  Emily has voiced her feelings on the lack of support given by many in our industry and I am also saddened by this lack of foresight.  Alan and Donna and Adam and Karen are staging this monumental effort at a huge cost - physically, emotionally and financially, to give back to this industry, to provide us with information and to allow us to grow in all areas of our dance experience so that there is a future for competitive dancing in Australia.  Their commitment and sincerity in unquestionable and they are backed by tireless helpers who ensure the smooth running of the event and put in an amazing amount of work.  Again with no financial gain.  I am amongst those who will do whatever is possible to further what they have started. I know that financially it is difficult for many in the West to attend but I really believe this to be a priority and an event well worth fundraising for.

Our participation next year is guaranteed.

Many thanks Anna for the opportunity to air my views.

Comments: Hi Everyone, I just returned from the Oz Dance Camp, held in Woolongong. I am surprised that so few of our couples and professionals took advantage of this opportunity to learn from some of the world's top coaches, particularly our top WA junior and youth couples who are aspiring to compete at a world level. The lectures by Richard Porter, Michael and Vicki Barr, as well as others, were so inspiring and informative and it is not often that these top international coaches are brought to our doorstep. If we do not support these sorts of events they will not be available in the future and as a result our information will become out of date and stale, we will not be competitive overseas and we will wonder why numbers are declining. We (as a state) do not hesitate to attend a comp over east. Remember, a comp won't improve your dancing but good information will. Think outside the box...Hope to see you all there next year!!!

In reference to Carol's comments with Channel 7's coverage I don't think she is alone in her disappointment. I know there are a lot of viewers and a lot of children & grandchildren who were not happy that the juveniles, junior or youth weren't shown.

Televising it on Xmas Day is wonderful, but isn't Xmas mainly for children?, I think so ! and by not including the youngsters, our up and coming talents they have discouraged a lot of newcomers. I know of a lot of families that sit together every Xmas evening to watch this programme, and for the past two years the same thing, they show two rounds of adults and professionals which is lovely to watch but do we need to see it all twice, I don't think so!

As for the commentary, I totally agree with Natalie. It was a bit of a joke!, throughout the whole show the male commentator was promoting his own voice. I would like to suggest that Dancesport have someone who is familiar with the dancers and their partners and has knowledge on the particular dances.

Congratulations to all the Winners of the Juvenile, Junior & Youth Events, and to all the competitors who took place in the Championships, you are all beautiful dancers.

Keep it Up!         Yours Eve ( Pinjarra )

Response by Anna: Hi Eve...I too have had many comments regarding the commentary, which as you say was poorly done. It was very apparent that there was not a good knowledge of the dancers names and talking about days gone by seemed irrelevant to me.

As for Channel 7's coverage, perhaps contacting the producer of the show and making a point that other sections, Junior, Juvenile, Youth etc., should be included, might help next year's show layout.

I want to state that last's nights show of the "Ten Dance" was far superior in my opinion. The commentary was excellent, even I obtained more knowledge to a few things. Paul Green is a great Ambassador for Australia, he is so well spoken and a true gentleman. I have already admired Paul for his dedication to dancing. And although I don't know Karen Hardy she made all valid points about the dancing and she gained my respect. Well done both of you!

Take care...kind regards... Anna!

Comments: Please advise where we can get results of the recent championships.

Re the Channel 7 coverage on Christmas Day although we enjoyed watching the lovely dancing, we were disappointed not to have seen any action from the juniors. Think I'm correct in saying that for the past 2 years they've televised both the semis and the finals of the Adult Open Latin. Instead of seeing the same competitors dancing twice, would much prefer to have seen something of the up and coming juniors.
Response by Anna: Hi Carol...  I couldn't agree more, I was disappointed not to see the Juniors at least or even the Youth for that matter.

As for the Results there will probably only be the IDSF events which I have listed on the links to the Results page. As for the other Results it depends on  Austalian Dancing Society, at the moment they would have to be entered manually so it would be the webmaster that you could contact to ask. His email is (Paul Ahern)  webmaster@australiandancingsociety.com.au Currently the programme they use for Results does not convert into html, to use for the web.

Also Ballroom Rhythms sometimes publishes Results. I would keep checking their site!

Take care... Anna!

Comments: Hi Anna, I just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear about Rebecca Allen. She was such a good dancer and I remember thinking that I wanted to be just like her when I first started Ballroom Dancing. It is a tragic loss and she will be greatly missed.
Response by Anna: Thank you Megs... It is very sad. Rebecca achieved so much at such a young age. Plus she was stunningly beautiful. It breaks my heart when I think of just how young she was to die at only 24years of age. My children started dancing when Rebecca was British Champion with Joe Polimeno and every competition we would not go home until we saw them dance. It was the best time ever to watch such superb dancing from such a young couple.

Perhaps if anyone else wants to give their thoughts, you can post to this form as wherever Rebecca is, she is smiling down watching and at least she would know that she is sadly missed...

I wish you well with your PHD and just think you will be able to go to the British to watch, many wonderful dancers. Keep in touch as we would love to hear what goes on in the UK. Perhaps when you come back eventually, you can take up dancing again. I will certainly miss the both of you! I hate to lose couples, but understand you have bigger and better things to do. Lots of hugs to you and Greg. Bye for now... take care Anna!

Best wishes for all those competing at the WA Open and the Australians in December.

Comments: Hi Anna,
I have just returned from a weekend in Sydney where Burn The Floor did their first three shows of the Dance Evolution Tour. The shows were fantastic - lots of new dance numbers and the usual high energy and beautiful dancing that we have come to expect from the Burn The Floor show. After leaving Australia the team will be doing shows in Japan and China. Good luck to all the Dancers on tour and thank you for keeping Ballroom Dancing in the public eye.

I am so sorry to hear about your split with Cameron and that now you won't be competing in Blackpool. Take the opportunity though to have some time out and enjoy what is in England while you are still there. I really feel for you, but you never know sometimes things have a way of working out in some other way.

All the best and I will be thinking of you!

Comments: Hi Anna,

A big HI from the UK! I have some news for you regarding my dancing. Unfortunately in the past few days, my partnership with Cameron has come to an end. We seem to want different things and think quite differently which can cause a lot of difficulty in a partnership. So it's best to go on our own separate paths.

So I'm currently on the look out for 'Mr Right', although disappointed I will not competing in Blackpool for the first time in 4 years, I'm looking positively to the future and what's around the corner!

I've been seeing quite a bit of Josh and Peta over here, and I have to say their dancing is looking fantastic.. very exciting.

Take care and I'll keep you informed!

Update on Gerry & Sarah/ Sean and Katie

Comments: Hi Anna,

People have been asking why we're not competing at the moment. Gerry and I are busy learning and practicing our new routines for Junior. Believe it or not we go up to Junior in June as Gerry turns 13 years old early June. We're very excited about being able to do more fancier steps and routines!

The sad news is that Sean & Katie have just broken up after the March comp. Sean has decided to take this year off from dancing because of being in Year 12 and having to study. It's a shame as they were starting to dance really well together!

Oh well that's our news. Bye for now.

I can't resist this chance to say hello to those who might remember us when my children David and Marissa Dew danced in Perth. We absolutely loved Perth and miss the wonderful dancing days there.  They are now warm memories.  David stopped dancing upon our return to the U.S.A. almost 5 years ago, but appreciates his exposure to this art form.  David is now a sophomore at Texas A & M University.  Marissa, who is a senior (year 12), in high school is looking forward to her graduation on May 21, 2004.  She plans to attend Florida State University and has already been accepted!  Marissa's passion remains dance! She is currently taking lessons from her professional coach Paul Richardson who is located here in Houston and is actually from Perth originally. A warm hello to Anna, Debbie, Michael Baker, Mitchell, Kim, Maxine, Becca, Ben, Jacinda, Sue, Jemma, Tara and all the others we miss so much. THOSE WERE THE DAYS!  Our love to all, Susan.

Hi Anna,

Just dropping you a line to let you know that I found out today through one of his parents, that my partner of almost five years no longer wishes to dance with me. Things haven't been too great for a while so it is probably for the best, but it is still sad after five years of hard work and dedication.

But as I am never one to let things get me down and as I always have a positive attitude I am hopeful of finding a new partner very soon.

At least we went out on a high note with an International title, and I wish him every success in the future.

I look forward to catching up with you and all my dancing friends on Sunday.

Take care, Taylor-Ann.

Hi Anna,

I just thought I should drop you a quick line or two letting you know what's
new with me at the moment.

As I'm sure your aware of, at the end of January Davide decided to no longer dance. So after that, as we were supposed to be going to the UK for 8 months in March anyway, I had decided to head over to the UK alone to find myself a partner as there was no one in Australia suitable who was available to dance with!

Then two weeks ago I received a call from Cameron Brogan suggesting a try-out. He and Katrina Patchett had decided to no longer continue their partnership earlier on in the year. So as Alan and Donna are still in Sydney we decided to meet up over there for a week and see how it went together. Well I'm happy to say that it couldn't have gone better!! I arrived back last Friday after a week of full on dancing with a big smile on my face. We have decided to dance together... and to add to that he has decided to make the move over to WA which is great.

Thanks again for all your hard work with the website.. I think the least we
can do, is let you know what is happening in our own dancing with all the
hard work you put into our dance website.

I'm sure I'll see you soon.

Thanks,  Larisa
