At what age can one start archery?
It is not the strength, but the mental development, coordination and concentration that govern the starting age of a child. In our club, we generally prefer children from 10 years and over to learn archery.
Would I be too old for archery?
How old is too old? There is a Master division for over 49 and a Veteran division for 60+. Our oldest active club member is 67 years of age.
Can people with disabilities take up archery?
It depends on the degree of disability of the person. A high dependency person may find it difficult to manage. We have trained an able body with 10% vision to become a competent archery. Our club has disabled toilet and ramp for wheel chair persons.
How much does it cost to attend the Beginner’s Course?
We run Beginner’s Courses regularly in the morning at a cost of $100 for 3x3 hours blocks in 3 consecutive weeks. Our club will provide all necessary archery equipment and basic protective gear to the students.
When and how do I apply to attend the next Beginner’s Course?
Application forms can be downloaded from this website. One can apply online or by post and payment should be forward to the club address ….
I have learnt archery before. Do I still have to attend the Beginner’s Course?
It is preferable to attend one of our Beginner’s Courses if one has only learnt from holiday resorts, school camps or casual function. We would accept an archer who can produce a certificate to prove that the person had attended an archery course from recognized archery clubs.
Do I have to buy my own bow and arrows to attend the course?
No. The course will provide the student with club equipments. We strongly advise students not to purchase archery equipment prior to completion of the course. The instructors will generally advise the student what archery equipment is more suitable for their use.
What does it cost to set up for archery?
Archery equipment comes in a huge range of prices. We generally recommend a beginner to purchase quality equipments and not expansive equipments. A basic set up is around $800.00. Good pre-loved equipment can be purchased at very reasonable prices.
How much is membership fee?
Archery membership is composed of four parts:
Archery Australia, Archery Victoria, Club and shooting fees
What are the disciplines of Archery?
Archery basically composes of Recurve Bow, Compound Bow and Longbow. Cross Bow is not very popular. It had phased itself off from the target tournaments
Do I have to live locally to joint Box Hill City Archers?
No. We welcome anyone who is interested in taking up membership with our club. We provide on going training for new and experience members. Our club is a place for friendship and competitions.
