A Trip Away
Well some of you may be aware that I have just taken some time off and headed up to NQ and spent a week on a houseboat around Hinchinbrook Island with my parents and my grandmother. I hadn't been up north since about grade 7, so I also saw a bunch of people and relations that I don't really know. Starting with Tracy picking me up at the airport in Cairns (seeing as how Ed.Q had moved Shane a few weeks earlier).
This in itself was quite a feat as I remembered Tracy as being a slightly annoying little kid (something around 6. I have no idea is she remembered me at all. But in the end it wasn't too hard as we were the only two people standing around in the airport at midnight on a Friday on our own. The next morning we drove to Tully to Les & Rita's place (who are Tracy's grandparents). Now they I remembered as this was where we always stayed when we came up when I was younger. You can see the view from their verandah over to the right (I get to use my picture space!!). We always used to swim at the beach there (all of a couple of 100 metres away), I have no idea why the crocs don't go there, they're in the rivers on either side, but not on the beach. You can also see the trees are a little wind swept after the recent cyclone.
Well anyway, then we went onto the boat, the might Joybel II. A fine sea-faring name that..., well at least it wasn't pink. And we spent a week cruising around Hinchinbrook Island, did a little fishing, a little crabbing, didn't get much really, but two feeds of fish, a crab, and my grandmother had her fill on the rocks (that's of oysters, which you have to eat on site, for those of you that didn't realise). All in all, it was sit back and do not much kind of time. As you can see from the pictures, sandflies like me. They really like me.
I got off the boat on Wednesday, quite convenient, given that origin was on that night. Now as I'm sure you're all aware, Queensland did lose that game. But all is ot yet lost. We shall return, and we shall be more powerful, AND WE SHALL BE VICTORIOUS!! New South Wales shall tremble at our might (please note I don't necessarily mean this year). And to finish off my trip I caught a ride with my folks down to Townsville to catch a plan (yet again I am left wondering who taught the virgin pilots to land). And enroute I saw several relations I would not recognise again.
