Venus Flytrap Facts The Venus Flytrap was named after Venus, the Greek goddess of love? (Although some say it was named after the planet Venus because it is so bizarre that it looks like it came from outer space!) Each side of one of the plant's traps has three 'trigger hairs'. An insect that touches one of these hairs twice, or two of these hairs in succession will set off the closing mechanism. Although there is only one type of Venus Flytrap in the wild, growers have selectively bred variations such as 'Royal Red' and 'Shark's Tooth'! |
