Photograph taken in Kingsbury Road (at the junction
with Gravelly Hill ) outside the Methodist Chapel (Free United) built
in 1890.

Memories of The Barley Mow pub which was a run down pub
when purchased circa 1926 with the idea of
investing some money into improving it.
The pub catered for local and country workers.
1) If the weather was wet during the potato picking time the
Irish workers would come in and spend all day which meant putting an
extra layer of sawdust
on the floor.
2) On Sundays - Marsh and Baxters Pork pies would be cut into
quarters and put on a tray with pickled onions (tried to get even
sizes) for the locals
at no charge.

Interesting that Great Great Grandfather George Ellis (born Birmingham 1811) was a Poulterer prior to 1839
and had a stall in the Birmingham Market Hall which was opened
in 1835 and contained 600 stalls.

Pewter 'Poirot' mascot today, beside a Pewter Tavern mug with both Birmingham and Coventry marks from the old county of Warwickshire.
The Pewter mascot was probably cast in Birmingham while the mug was made by Villers and Wilkes of Birmingham circa 1820-1830.
