"Red Rush" - Winner of the 2003 Australian International Model Solar Boat Challenge (senior division)
INTRODUCTION
In Australia competitions are run each year to find the fastest model solar
boats. The States of Victoria and South Australia and Queensland are particularly active in
promoting and holding a State competition each year. The intention of having
these competitions is to encourage primary and secondary school students to
learn about solar power and the process of designing and constructing a boat. The learning and construction process is usually encouraged and guided by a school teacher or parent
with special knowledge and interest in the area. The desired outcome is
that the children will have fun and hopefully develop a long term interest
in science or engineering.
