Outside The Edge Pictures

Extending part of your photo to sit outside a frame makes a great effect for your layouts – eg. a child’s hand reaching out, a leg kicking a ball, car doors.
Clear crisp edges are best for this method.
Open your photo. *Tip: If you intend to use a white frame as I have, add a coloured background underneath your photo. This will make it easier to see your end result. You can change the colour of the background later.

Resize the background to fit then drag it underneath the photo.

Add the frame: Insert shape/no fill.
Change the line thickness to suit. I used 8
Change the colour of your line. I used white.

Position your frame to suit.
Click on the photo to make it the active layer.

Using the Edge Finder tool trace around the part of the photo you want to extend outside the frame.

Click on the Object tool
Now right click and "copy"
Right click again and "paste"
Your stack should look like this: (The middle layer below is my white frame so it won’t show up.)

Click on the photo again to make it the active layer. The photo must be the active layer or the next step won’t work.
Using the Marquee tool and the same shape as your frame, mark out the part of the photo that is underneath and inside the frame.
Click on Adjust marquee to resize and position correctly.

Click Done.
Click on the Object tool
Now right click and "copy"
Right click again and "paste".
From the stack, drag the top layer down so it is underneath the first cut-out and the frame.

Remove the original photo and this is the result.

You can now change the colour of your background, add filters, add a border, bevel the frame or add text.
Flatten all layers when done and save your work.
Try different shapes or perhaps "skew" the frame as in the examples below.
