There
are a total of six tools in the plans. A description of
each tool and what it's used for is as follows:
- Poker - metal rod
used to move burning wood either back or forward
in the oven
- Shovel - metal
tray used to empty the oven of hot or cold coals
- Scraper - metal
plate used to push the hot coals around the oven
- Brush - brass
bristled brush with swivel head used to sweep ash
off the oven floor
- Scuffle - type of
mop used to clean the last of the ash off the
oven floor
- Peel - flat metal
sheet used to load and unload pizza, bread,
roasting pans etc
I use each of these
tools at least once during every firing and cooking
session. For me, these are must have pieces of equipment
if you want to get the most out of your oven.
They are all very
simple to make and need the minimum of equipment. The
main peices of equipment you will need are:
- Workbench with
vice
- Electric drill
- Angle grinder
- Welder (Optional:
For two of the tools I used a welder because I
have a friend who has one, but in the plans I
show you how to I make these even without a
welder)
- Tin snips
- And other minor
tools and equipment
All the oven tools cost
me a total of around A$100 (US$75) but would be even less
if you have some of the materials already.
