Malcolm Tattersall agreed to continue to manage the Society’s web site and Glenda Tattersall agreed to take on our long standing project to buy a great bass including writing some grant applications.
Margaret presented a report at the AGM which reminded us what a lot we have done this year, four play days, the Paluma residential weekend and its associated concert, new works obtained for the library, classes and informal playing groups, all supported by promotional work. Clearly Margaret can be proud of her spell as our President.
Margaret Caley (past president) has booked a Cotter’s Market busking permit for the Society for Sunday 14th December. It is for site no. 1 (outside the Metway Arcade). Margaret suggests 8.30 for meeting and set up and playing 9.00 -11.00. She would like to organise a practice session. Please contact her on 042 775 7958.
Plans are under way for next year’s events. The play days will be February 15th, April 26th, August 16th and October 18th and will be held at the Riverside Gardens Community Centre. We hope to have a different musical director designated for each play day who will choose and lead the music and may identify a particular theme. If you are interested in being musical director for a play day, please contact the editor at jeandartnall@gmail.com
In 2009 the residential weekend will be in Ingham at the Hotel Noorla from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th June. We hope this location will allow us to better serve our members in Cairns and the Tablelands. Plans include workshops in Kuranda on Thu 11- Fri 12th June, schools workshops on Monday 15th June and a concert in Townsville on Tuesday 16th June, all tbc. More details will be available in your next newsletter.
Heather (our President) will be offering recorder classes for adults next year starting in February. Heather has already had two very successful years of this. The classes will be run on Wednesday evenings, beginners at 6.15 and intermediates at 7.30. Please contact Heather on hc4816@bigpond.net.au or on 4778 8275 if you are interested.
