Confederate Drone Fighter

The Ship:

The Galactic confederacy operates a large fleet of compact, cheap and expendable Drone Fighters to protect it's borders. Fitted with a simple AI and a pair of powerful laser cannons, these fighters can pack quite a punch but use up considerably less resources than a human piloted machine.

The Model:

Shortly after building the Warpstorm IV I embarked upon another, much less ambitious project. This time a Drone Fighter (I'm sure it had a class name, but I can't remember it!) built from a deodorant stick. I drew up plans before I built it, and my brother had a go at building one as well. His was better made than mine but didn't capture the feel of the drawings as well.

I used a few kit parts in this build, but mostly it was plasticard and tube. The base was made from an old tap, a coat hanger and some wood! I'd seen fancy bases on Starship Modeler and I wanted to do something interesting too!

I remember having a hell of a time getting things to stick because the plastic of the deodorant stick just wouldn't co-operate. It was at this time that I realized that there were plastics for making models out of and there were plastics best avoided!

Unlike the WSIV, I still have the drone. It sits on top of the meat safe at my parents' house. It's very dust, but so far nothing seems to have fallen off.
