The GRX-40M is the heavy lifting and maintenance variant of the successful GRX-40 series of military exo-skeletons from Grumman-Raphael ExoSystems. Designed to make light work of heavy lifting and fitted with an ingenious multi-tool, most Confederate military ships and installations will have several of these sturdy beasts on hand.
The Model:
At one stage Hearn's Hobbies in Melbourne had a wonderful basket of cheap (and very dodgey!) mecha kits. Naturally, my brother and I used to buy them and do outlandish things with them. This is an example.
The GRX-40M was originally something called 'wear puppet twinklehead', much to our amusement. I removed the head and chest area, exposing the pilot's seat. I also added roll-cages from plastruct girders, and opened up various leg panels. The hand was replaced with a much clulnkier version made from plasticard, and a bit fat spot light added. I made a dioramic display base featuring some figures converted from WW2 germans (very badly converted I might add!)
Then I left it to attract dust.
I remember this being a lot of fun and thinking what a great job I'd done of the detailing, but these days it just looks like a mess. Maybe one day I'll revisit this old model and improve it. Maybe.
