Terry Fuller

Terry Fuller has been a shore based fisherman since a small child living in Nedlands and being introduced to fishing on the Nedlands and Claremont jetties on sunny afternoons catching "gobble guts", smelt, gardies and some crabs.

He joined a beach fishing club in the early 1960's and remembers the friendships, freedoms and the fishing of those times. Work and family commitments with six children gave less time for fishing for a while.

Several years ago he rejoined that original club and took a very active part in running the club for some years. Terry was also very active in the Australian Anglers Association which promotes club angling as an enjoyable sport and recreation for families and people of all ages. Since late 2006, he has redirected his volunteer efforts to assisting Recfishwest with its very important work.

Terry is concerned about the continually increasing restrictions affecting recreational anglers. These include changes to regulations, increased pressure on fish stocks, areas closed to fishing, access to the coast, closure of jetties, reduced facilities, increased costs, camping restrictions, the reluctance of many recreational anglers to get involved, security for vehicles and property while fishing, and the like.

Terry has a keen interest in the planning for Marine Parks in both State and Commonwealth waters. Terry challenges the "just close it off" ideologies, with particular emphasis on the justification for and location of no take sanctuary zones, to keep the planners informed about and focussed on using proper assessments of the risks and realities of recreational fishing.

Terry is also a member of the Jurien Bay Marine Park Community Advisory Committee.

Terry hopes that the fishing experience and the friendships which exists among anglers, particularly club anglers, will be something that future generations can also experience.

As well as being a Board Member, Terry is a member of the Recfishwest Executive, the Finance Committee, has chaired the Policy Development Committee for two years and the Communications and Membership Committee for two years.

Terry has a technical background, training and work experience as an Engineer, experience with using computers as tools and an interest in using the Internet as a very valuable source of information and way of distributing that information to Recfishwest members and the general fishing public.

Terry publicises the activities of Recfishwest and answers questions on several Western Australian fishing discussion forums. This reaches many people who are active local recreational fishermen.

Terry is the researcher, producer and compiler of the regular "Casting Around the Internet with Recfishwest" publications which commenced in mid 2007.

Terry has designed the layout and added many of the features in this Recfishwest website.

Terry was re-elected to the Recfishwest Board at the Annual General Meeting in October 2009 for a 2 year term as one of five Association Board Members of Recfishwest.

He was elected Chairman of the Communications and Membership Committee for 2009/10 at the November 2009 Board Meeting.
