Recreational Netting
See the current list of policies on the new Recfishwest website Policies page
Recfishwest policy is that gill netting
and set netting are not acceptable catch methods for recreational
take of finfish.
Cast nets used for the take of small quantities
of small bait fish and other bait for immediate and/or personal
use are acceptable.
The reason for this policy is that recreational
fishing should emphasise the active involvement of the fisher to
gain the maximum benefit from the use of the limited resource.
Unacceptable catches in excess of the daily
bag limits, unwanted and illegal by-catch, and high mortality of
excess catches are also possible due to the lack of control on the
catch in nets.
