Some Recfishwest activities such as fishing clinics involve working with children. Recfishwest staff and volunteers work with other people from the local area such as teachers, parents, relatives and friends, who help run the activities.

Recfishwest's policy is that all staff and people organised by Recfishwest to run these clinics must have an acceptable and current assessment under Western Australia's "Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004".

People issued with a negative notice under the Act will not be organised by Recfishwest to work on location in any Recfishwest activities involving children, such as fishing clinics.

Recfishwest will introduce procedures to ensure that Recfishwest has up to date information about the assessment of all persons organised by Recfishwest for such activities.

Recfishwest is unable to take responsibility for assessment of people from the local area who assist, such as teachers, parents, relatives and friends.

Recfishwest will ensure that local people organising such local assistance are aware of the Act and are fully informed of Recfishwest's policy, and will recommend that a similar policy be applied, without insisting on assessments for parents or close relatives who bring children.
