- FACT OF JESUS' SECOND COMING [top]
- Jesus will come again!
"For the Son of Man [Jesus] is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done." (Mt 16:27); "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory." (Mt 25:31); "In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." (Jn 14:2-3); "Jesus answered, `If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.'" (Jn 21:22); "This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." (Ac 1:11); "For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes." (1Cor 11:26); "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first." (1Th 4:16); "so Christ ... will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him." (Heb 9:28); "Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen." (Rev 1:7); "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty." (Rev 1:8)"... `Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.'" (Rev 4:8).

(Isa 13:10, 13); "All the stars of the heavens will be dissolved and the sky rolled up like a scroll; all the starry host will fall like withered leaves from the vine, like shriveled figs from the fig tree. ... (Isa 34:4, 8) = "Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." (Mt 24:29-30 KJV) = "But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory." - Day of wrath, anger
"total darkness lies in wait for his treasures. A fire unfanned will consume him and devour what is left in his tent. A flood will carry off his house, rushing waters on the day of God's wrath. For when you did awesome things that we did not expect, you came down, and the mountains trembled before you." (Isa 64:1-3); "See, the LORD is coming with fire, and his chariots are like a whirlwind; he will bring down his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. For with fire and with his sword the LORD will execute judgment upon all men, and many will be those slain by the LORD." (Isa 66:15-16); "Look! The LORD is coming from his dwelling place; he comes down and treads the high places of the earth. The mountains melt beneath him and the valleys split apart, like wax before the fire, like water rushing down a slope." (Mic 1:3-4); "Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. For he will be like a refiner's fire or a launderer's soap." (Mal 3:2).
- The Son of Man
"In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. (Jn 5:25-27); "I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one `like a son of man' with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested." (Rev 14:14-16).

His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey him.' (Dn 7:27); "For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place." (Rev 6:12-14) = "All the stars of the heavens will be dissolved and the sky rolled up like a scroll; all the starry host will fall like withered leaves from the vine, like shriveled figs from the fig tree. ... For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a year of retribution, to uphold Zion's cause." (Isa 34:4, 8).
- Restoration, renewal, of all things

(Isa 66:22); "Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them." (Rev 20:11); "He who was seated on the throne said, `I am making everything new!' Then he said, `Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.'" (Rev 21:5).
- New age
"Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come." The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous" (Mt 13:49); "`I tell you the truth,' Jesus replied, `no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields-and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life.'" They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. `Men of Galilee,' they said, `why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.' "The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders," (2Th 2:9); "Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour." (1Jn 2:18).
- Is coming
"but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world." (1Jn 4:3).
- Revealed after Great Apostasy
"Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for (that day will not come) until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction." (2Th 2:3).
- Will work evil and counterfeit miracles
"The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders," (2Th 2:9); "and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved." (2Th 2:10).
- Will deny that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah) the Son of God
"Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist-he denies the Father and the Son." (1Jn 2:22); "Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist." (2Jn 1:7).
- Will deceive non-Christians
"The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in ... every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved." (2Th 2:10); "For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie" (2Th 2:11); "Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist." (2Jn 1:7).
- Will cause Christians to be attacked, overpowered and killed
"Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them." (Rev 11:7); "... And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horns, and on each head a blasphemous name. ... He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation." (Rev 13:1,7); "As I watched, this horn was waging war against the saints and defeating them, until the Ancient of Days came and pronounced judgment in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came when they possessed the kingdom." (Dn 7:21-22).
- Will desecrate the Church (or Temple)
"So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation, ' [Dn 9:27; 11:31; 12:11] spoken of through the prophet Daniel-let the reader understand- then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains." (Mt 24:15-16) = "When you see 'the abomination that causes desolation' standing where it [or he] does not belong-let the reader understand-then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains." (Mk 13:14).
- Will set himself up as a god
"He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple [Gk. naos, "shrine," "temple"], proclaiming himself to be God [Gk. "a god"]." (2Th 2:4).
- Is being restrained
"And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time." (2Th 2:6).
- Will be destroyed at Christ's second coming
"And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming." (2Th 2:8) = "but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked." (Isa 11:4); "As I watched, this horn was waging war against the saints and defeating them, until the Ancient of Days came and pronounced judgment in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came when they possessed the kingdom." (Dn 7:21-22).
- There will be many antichrists
"Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist." (2Jn 1:7).
- Antichrist's followers will be condemned
"and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness." (2Th 2:12).
- Battle of Armageddon
"They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty. `Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed.' Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon." (Rev 16:14-16); "When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth-Gog and Magog-to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever." (Rev 20:7-10); "And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. On that day the weeping in Jerusalem will be great, like the weeping of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo." (Zec 12:10-11). See: Jdg 5:19, 2Ki 23:29-30, Eze 38:1-23 & 39:1-29.
- Jesus' coming itself
"At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory." (Mt 24:30).
- TYPES & ANALOGIES OF SECOND COMING [top]
- Noah's Flood
"As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man." (Mt 24:37-39) = "Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all." (Lk 17:26-27); "if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly ... if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment" (2Pet 2:5, 9); "First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, `Where is this "coming" he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.'" (2Pet 3:3-4); "But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men." (2Pet 3:5-7).
- Destruction of Sodom & Gomorrah
"It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed." (Lk 17:28-30); "and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men. ... if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment." (2Pet 2:7,9).
- Destruction of Jerusalem
"Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. `Do you see all these things?' he asked. `I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.'" (Mt 24:1-2) = "As he was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, `Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!'
`Do you see all these great buildings?' replied Jesus. `Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.'" (Mk 13:1-2) = "Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said, `As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.'" (Lk 21:5-6); "For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." (Mt 16:27-28); "So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation, '[Dn 9:27; 11:31; 12:11] spoken of through the prophet Daniel - let the reader understand - then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let no one on the roof of his house go down to take anything out of the house." (Mt 24:15-17) = "When you see 'the abomination that causes desolation' standing where it does not belong - let the reader understand - then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.Let no one on the roof of his house go down or enter the house to take anything out." (Mk 13:14-15) = "Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city." (Lk 21:21); "On that day no one who is on the roof of his house, with his goods inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything." (Lk 17:31); "It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. On that day no one who is on the roof of his house, with his goods inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything. Remember Lot's wife! Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it." (Lk 17:32-33); "When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near." (Lk 21:20); "How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath." (Mt 24:19-20) = "How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! Pray that this will not take place in winter," (Mk 13:17-18) = "For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people." (Lk 21:22-23); "They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled." (Lk 21:22-24).
- Harvest
"Let the nations be roused; let them advance into the Valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit to judge all the nations on every side. Swing the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, trample the grapes, for the winepress is full and the vats overflow- so great is their wickedness!"" (Joel 3:12-13); "He also said, `This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain-first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.'" (Mk 4:26-29); "Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: `First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.' "
(Mt 13:30); "... The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age." (Mt 13:39b-40); "But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, 'This is the heir. Come, let's kill him and take his inheritance.' So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants? `He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,' they replied, `and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.'" (Mt 21:38-41); "I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one `like a son of man' with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, `Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.' So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested." (Rev 14:14-16); "Still another angel, who had charge of the fire, came from the altar and called in a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, `Take your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth's vine, because its grapes are ripe.' The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God's wrath. " (Rev 14:18-19).
- Birth
"All these are the beginning of birth pains." (Mt 24:8) = "These are the beginning of birth pains." (Mk 13:8)"We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time." (Rom 8:22).

"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." (Mt 24:36) = "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." (Mk 13:32); "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Then the flood came and destroyed them all." (Mt 24:50) = "The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. " (Lk 12:46); "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour." (Mt 25:13); "It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. ... " (Lk 17:30); "For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead." (Ac 17:31).
- Unknown
"... the disciples came to him privately. `Tell us, ' they said, `when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?' ... `No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.'" (Mt 24:3,36) = "Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to be fulfilled?" ... "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." (Mk 13:4,32); "But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, 'My master is staying away a long time, ' and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of." (Mt 24:48-50) = "But suppose the servant says to himself, 'My master is taking a long time in coming, ' and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants and to eat and drink and get drunk. The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. " (Lk 12:45-46); "So when they met together, they asked him, `Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?' He said to them: `It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.'" (Ac 1:6-7); "Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night." (1Th 5:1-2); "Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you." (Rev 3:3).
- At God's own choosing

(1Tim 6:14-15); "Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes." (1Cor 4:5).
- When full number of the saved is reached
"He also said, "This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. (Mk 4:26-29); "as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming." (2Pet 3:12).

That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man." (Mt 24:37-39) = "Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. (Mt 24:48-50) = "But suppose the servant says to himself, 'My master is taking a long time in coming, ' and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants and to eat and drink and get drunk. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." (2Pet 3:9).
- In later times, last times, last days
"... in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons." (1Tim 4:1); "... There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God- having a form of godliness but denying its power. ..." (2Tim 3:1-5); "... you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time." (1Pet 1:4-5); "... in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." (2Pet 3:3-4) = Jude 17-18).
- After Jerusalem no longer trampled on by the Gentiles
"They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled." (Lk 21:24).
- After the Great Tribulation
"Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." (Mt 24:29-30 KJV); "But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory." (Mk 13:24-26 KJV); "At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory." (Lk 21:27); "Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man." (Lk 21:36); "God ... will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels." (2Th 1:6-7).
- When all signs converge
"Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door." (Mk 13:29) = "Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it [he] is near, right at the door." (Mt 24:33) = "Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near." (Lk 21:31).

(Mt 24:34) = "I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened." (Mk 13:30) = "I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened." (Lk 21:32).
- RESPONSE TO SECOND COMING [top]
- Christians
- Continually remember
"For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes." (1Cor 11:26).
- Hope
"But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently." (Rom 8:25); "For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you?" (1Th 2:19); "Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him." (1Th 4:13-14); "But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet." (1Th 5:8); "while we wait for the blessed hope-the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ" (Tit 2:13); "... set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed." (1Pet 1:13); "... But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure." (1Jn 3:2b-3).
- Looking forward to
"When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." (Lk 21:28); "as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming." (2Pet 3:12); "If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha ["Come, O Lord"]." (1Cor 16:22 KJV); "But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness." (2Pet 3:13); "So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him." (2Pet 3:14); "He who testifies to these things says, `Yes, I am coming soon.' Amen. Come, Lord Jesus." (Rev 22:20).
- Watching for
"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come." (Mt 24:42); "But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into." (Mt 24:43); "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour." (Mt 25:13); "So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time." (Mk 13:23); "Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come." (Mk 13:33); "It's like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. " (Mk 13:34); "It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. " (Lk 12:37); "Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man." (Lk 21:36); "Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back-whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn." (Mk 13:35); "If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping." (Mk 13:36); "What I say to you, I say to everyone: 'Watch!'" (Mk 13:37).
- Ready
"So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him." (Mt 24:44); "It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns." (Mt 24:46); "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight the cry rang out: 'Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!' " (Mt 25:1-6); "But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut." (Mt 25:10); "If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping." (Mk 13:36); "Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, " (Lk 12:35); "like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. " (Lk 12:36); "It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night." (Lk 12:47); "And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed." (Rom 13:11); "But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief." (1Th 5:4); "So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled." (1Th 5:6); "... prepare your minds for action ... [for] when Jesus Christ is revealed." (1Pet 1:13); "Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready." (Rev 19:7).
- Waiting
"Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. " (Lk 12:35-36)"But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently." (Rom 8:25); "Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed." (1Cor 1:7); "Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes." (1Cor 4:5); "But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope." (Gal 5:5); "But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, " (Php 3:20); "and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead-Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath." (Jas 5:7); "You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near." (Jas 5:8).
- Encouraged
"For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words." (1Th 4:16-18); "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." (1Th 5:11).
- Joy
"For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you?" (1Th 2:19); "To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy - " (Jude 24).

It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns." (Mt 24:45-46); "But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, 'My master is staying away a long time, ' and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. (Mt 24:48-50) = "But suppose the servant says to himself, 'My master is taking a long time in coming, ' and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants and to eat and drink and get drunk. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man." (Mt 24:37-39) = "Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all."
