From: hezromberg@aol.com (HezRomberg) Subject: NEW: Down TIme - DS9 (O/K) sort of Date: 21 Aug 1996 15:51:18 -0400 This is my first attempt at writing a Star Trek story. While I usually appreciate more serious drama, I appear to be incapable of writing it. Conseqently, this is a very short light hearted story. Comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Heather Down Time - DS9 "You are vole meat! Just wait until I get my hands on you-- you. Urgg!" Major Kira Neyrs dodged tables in Quarks Bar in her effort to catch the scrambling Constable. "But, Major it is TRADITIONAL, on Earth at least. YOU told me I should study other cultures idiosyncrasies to get a better understanding of them!" Odo nearly fell over a misplaced chair in his haste to avoid the enraged Bajoran. Jadzia Dax watched amused from her standard table across the room and commented to her companions, "I wonder what he did this time?" "I don't know, " scowled Worf, "but it is unseemly for officers to behave in such a manner." "I don't know what he did, but she probably deserved it, after all she started the damn practical jokes in the first place." Remarked Dr. Bashir. "It took me almost an hour to get all the Keresian tar out of Odo's hair last time. Odo is still not used to being humanoid as it is, the experience was traumatic." Odo ran behind the bar causing Quark to drop a bottle of Boleian wine. "Hey, watch it! Take your fights elsewhere Major!" He shouted indignantly. The group calmly observing from the other side of the room winced as the bottle broke. "Don't forget the family of voles he set loose in her bedroom." Jadzia responded in her friend's defense. "You are as bad as she is!" Bashir replied. "In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if you set this whole thing up from the beginning, something about *loosening them up*." "Who me?" Jadzia asked looking innocent, laughter in her eyes. "I would NEVER do something like that." Bashir declined taking her up on the implied challenge least he become one of her next victims. A 400-year-old joined Trill in search of some amusement was a dangerous thing. She had lots of experience to draw upon. "Well, all I can say is I'm glad you waited until after the baby was born to set them at each other. I wouldn't have liked the voles in MY quarters," Miles O'Brien commented dryly as Captain Sisko came over to join them. He had to dodge a thrown chair and a fallen table, but eventually got there. "What is it now? I've never seen this strong a reaction from the Major before," he asked with a sigh. "We don't know yet," Bashir told him. Quark made his way carefully through the debris. "Captain, I must formally protest! They are tearing up by bar!" "I'll see to it that you are reimbursed Quark, but it is not like you have a lot of customers recently anyway. The Bajoran festival and conference on Bajor has made it too quiet around here for the past month. If anything this is drawing in business for you, look." Quark saw that indeed several people had come in from the Promenade to see what all the ruckus was about. "Just as long as they pay for the damage," he shouted over his shoulder as he went to wait on the new customers. Sisko continued to watch the chase in mild amusement. This ongoing war between his first officer and the Constable was the only thing that had kept them from going stir crazy the last month. He even placed a bet in favor of Odo escape. Just then Kira launched a bottle of Klingon Blood wine at Odo who ducked letting it sail across the room and bounce off the wall behind Worf. It was time to intervene. "Major, Constable, front and center!" Odo waited until he was sure Kira was not going to use this to her advantage, before cautiously moving over to Sisko. Kira was still clearly incensed, but, while Odo appeared a little nervous he was also clearly amused. "What did you do Constable?" Sisko asked trying to sound annoyed. Odo glanced smugly at Kira before answering. "After she so thoughtfully, programmed my sonic shower to coat me in Keresian tar, I repaid her generosity with a traditional Earth style birthday spanking." This statement brought hearty laughter from all assembled causing Kira's rage to increase even further. "Well, Major, a birthday spanking is nothing to get so upset over. It is just a friendly demonstration of affection, and from all of us, Happy Birthday." Sisko realized he may have pushed her to far, when she stepped back and suddenly appeared to be totally calm. "Why thank you all for your heart felt sentiment," she said sweetly. "There is just one problem. IT IS NOT MY BIRTHDAY." "Oops, my mistake Major . I guess I misunderstood that chapter. Sorry about that." Odo said coyly as he made a dash for the door. Laughter echoed onto the Promenade when Kira set off after her prey.
